Oretachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai

People say I talk so much and yet none of what I say are worth reading because they are all nonsense. In response to such a critic, I have decided to waste a portion of my precious time to post something useful. To begin with, I shall post information about shows, anime in exact, that I have a very geunine interest in for the next upcoming season; Spring. Spring is said to be a season of beginnings after a cold and normally depressing Winter. Spring has traditionally been filled with crappy anime such as Mayoi Neko Overrun but have in recent years come out with slightly appetising ones. Take for instance Angel Beats of last year as well as my personal favourite; Asura Cryin’. Winter is said to be the season where all the anime which could not make the fall season get ousted into. So it’s like the second rated shows are there. Then again this year’s winter season proves to be just as good, if not, even better than the fall season. Kimi ni Todoke jumps things off followed by original animation like Fractale. I plan to watch all these when I get out from the army. By then, I would have accumulated more than enough to keep me occupied. As for now, I concentrate on Rurouni Kenshin.

Oretachi ni Tsubasa wa nai (俺たちに翼はない) literally means We don’t have Wings. It’s an anime adapted from an eroge. I know eroge adaptations are very subjective because the quality of the animation is usually there. What is the emphasis is that the content and plot is lacking in some very fabulously moe eroge adaptations. Over the years, eroge adaptations to anime have gone from bad to worst and the few good ones I have watched these few years that still remain in my memories are H2O Footprints, True Tears (albeit totally different from the eroge), Myself;Yourself (All age ratings by Yeti), Koihime, 11eyes, Princess Lover and Shukufuku no Campanella. I guess all are popular while some are not. It depends on who knows, maybe Japan? Or the 2chan? I usually like to translate eroges because I know the ending must be original because the game provides many routes for the gamer to choose from. It is always a harem setting where you will choose one girl that catch your eye, slowly progress to date her and eventually have sex with her. It is actually very digusting if you think of yourself dating and fucking to a 2D and unmoving CGs. It’s worst than hentai, I feel. As I was saying, the more memorable ones are listed and they are memorable because they are good or because they are horrendous. Akaneiro ni Somaru Saka is one example of a poor adaptation. Eroge used to get 2 cour adaptations but have now been popularly reduced to 1 cour. When it comes down to 1 cour of 12 or 13 episodes, it sends a stronge signal and message that it only plans to advertise and hence it will be ecchi and heavily sex driven. This means plot and content will be lacking. On the other hand, other much better eroges with 2 cours like Canvas 2, Da Capo and Shuffle have debunked the myths that Eroge adaptions cannot do well as compared to manga or even original animation. I certainly hope Oretachi is one.

Now for a brief introduction, Oretachi ni Tsubasa wa nai isn’t some fanciful childhood friend girl living with the protagonist and then a new foreign exchange girl with fanciful hair colour (say red) suddenly transferred in. Then it becomes a harem where the childhood friend will be jealous of the fanciful exchange student. Of course what I have described is just the lower end of the harem, most times, the generic ones like big boobs, DFC, tomboy sporty, shy girly and all the shit stuffs come out. What is worst is they end it with the harem end. That really ticks me off the most, but I can do nothing. Maybe, just maybe Oretachi will be a conclusive one.

Oretachi is about a main protagonist who suffers from personality disorders rooting from Schizophrenia. I believe this will highlight most misconceptions about Schizophrenia, and I hope they don’t make it so unrealistic because Schizophrenia patients are very discriminated in the working society. Anyways, his schizophrenia results in multiple personalities with each personality interacting and eventually falling in love with a certain girl in the game. I have no idea how the anime is going to wrap everything up because I believe this game deals a lot with the drama element. We could have the guy suddenly become confronted with some many girls who don’t know his other few personalities exist. It will be quite unbelievable to get away with having so many girlfriends with only 24 hours, not counting sleep. They are bound to realise it someday. This is what sets Oretachi from other eroges. The eroge is by Navel, famous for Shuffle! and Soul Link. Shuffle has one of the most conclusive endings I have seen in eroge anime adaptions. I am hoping MMV and Navel will make this one a drama orientated one with lesser fan-service. But MMV have long been associated with shit eroge adaptions like Tayutama Kiss my Deity and Akasaka. They will always have an OVA in their BD/DVD release which is of course very fanservice in nature. This is probably what I fear the most. Asread handled Shuffle! and not MMV while ZEXCS handled Da Capo and Canvas 2. Starchild also does a good job with DC II and above.

As of now, no fansub group have directly expressed plans to sub this show. m33w is rumoured to be one of them, though this may not be true. Probably time will tell whether if I will really TL this show. I will only POC on 8 April on a Friday. The first air date is slated to be on 3rd March which falls on my Book in day. So it’s impossible for me to tl it. Someone will tl the first episode, as I was told. Hopefully the show isn’t filled with pesky terminologies like Asura Cryin’. This way even without a consistent translator, the show will turn out fine.

Against my self-imposed practice of not posting pictures due to lack of space and time, I have decided that for an informative post to get through to people, I have to include pictures to make it a whole lot more complete.

The official anime website states only 4 characters, the girl missing is Yamashina Miyako which had a notable bloodshed ending. It could be that due to surprisingly early AT-X slot of 0830, they are trying to reduce the blood and violence. It could also be that they don’t plan on doing drama at all. Let’s wait and see. In any case, the theme songs are sung by two very familiar singers, the OP by Misato Aki and the ED by Miyuki Hashimoto. The both of them usually collaborate together on eroge and the anime adaptations with the most recent one being Shukufuku no Campanella. So this is really my sort of anime. Both of them sing great songs which is also something to look forward to.
